NORTH WEST: SDF MP RELEASED AFTER 5 DAYS IN CAPTIVITY

Honourable Wainanchi Honorine, Member of Parliament for Boyo in the North West region has been liberated, one week after her abduction. The lawmaker who militates for the opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) party was picked up on her way to Bamenda from her native Belo on February 05, 2023.

He release was announced few hours ago by fellow SDF lawmaker, Hon Joshua Osih. “The SDF is relieved with the release from captivity tonight of our MP for Boyo, Hon Wainanchi Honorine who was kidnapped … days ago in the North West region,” he tweeted, adding “to God be the glory.”

He however did not mention who the abductors were, as well as the manner in which the release was secured.

Up until the MP’s release, SDF party members had remained largely quiet, and the party itself, hardly made any official communication. Her abduction however, was confirmed by SDF North West Regional Chairman.

“I have been talking with the son. He told me that he first called his mother on the night she was kidnapped but didn’t have the opportunity to really discuss with her since her abductors abruptly put off the phone,” Hon Njong Evaristus told The Guardian Post days back.

Hon Wainanchi’s abduction is one of many others recorded within the context of the armed conflict in the North West and South West regions. Primarily orchestrated by separatist fighters, they have often targeted among others, politicians.
