Centre regional governor, Naseri Paul Bea has confirmed that 14 people have died in a landslide in Yaounde today. The incident occurred in Damas, a neighbourhood in the YaoundΓ© III municipality.
“They were attending a meeting in this place which is a very dangerous area, when suddenly there was a landslide” revealed Governor Naseri who visited the scene moments ago.
The landslide, he told reporters, “killed 14 people. Over 10 others have been taking to the various hospitals. We are carrying the corpses to the mortuary of the Central Hospital while the search for other corpses is still ongoing.”
The City Council he added, is going to send a bulldozer to aid in the search for bodies.
“We want to tell the population that it is a risky zone to stay and we are calling on them to liberate the area for now for the police and gendarmes to do their work so that by tomorrow morning we will be able to have a clear report on the situation,” he urged.
